  • Farmer Feeds Cows Candy Instead of Corn – As corn prices have skyrocketed in the drought, one Kentucky farmer has chosen to feed his 1,400 head of cattle defective candy deemed unfit for human consumption, often with the wrappers still on. He claims the feed mixture, which has a higher fat ratio and contains an ethanol byproduct and mineral nutrient, is actually healthier than corn. Continue reading

  • Bagged Apple Slices Recalled for Possible Listeria Contamination – Packaged apple slices across the country were recalled this week due to potential contamination by the bacteria listeria monocytogenes, all from one processing plant.   • Dow’s GMO “Agent Orange Corn” Seeks USDA Approval – Dow AgroSciences is seeking approval for it’s “Enlist” corn, which has been genetically modified to be resistant to 2,4-D, an ingredient used in Agent Orange and a Dow herbicide — this corn would allow farmers to spray the herbicide without harming corn crops. More than 365,000 missives against approval have been submitted to the USDA by numerous groups.
